Build your understanding of integrated care

Connect knowledge.
Understand wellbeing.

Develop knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to health, social care and wellbeing organisations. This foundation degree explores contemporary principles and practices, with opportunities to connect academic learning and work-related experience.

Investigate inequalities, social justice, safeguarding, mental health and the individual across the life course. Professional development and work-based learning help you reflect on your own skills and the contexts in which care is delivered.

Learn through varied approaches supported by academics with relevant subject and industry experience. Build research, critical thinking, teamwork and problem-solving skills as you become a more independent learner.

Understand your starting point

An FdA is a Level 5 foundation degree. NCG lists the full programme as two years full-time, with Level 4 study followed by Level 5. The six modules supplied for this page match its second-year list. If you already hold a relevant CertHE or other qualification, confirm recognition of prior learning, your entry point and remaining duration.

Prior higher education

CertHEin a relevant health and social care subject

A relevant Certificate of Higher Education is one of the listed entry routes. Confirm whether it supports advanced entry and which credits can be recognised.

Listed qualifications

  • BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Health, Social Care and Wellbeing, or related studies.
  • NVQ Level 4 in an appropriate vocational area, or an A-level equivalent.
  • CertHE in Health, Social Care and Wellbeing.

The supplied outline also requires GCSE Mathematics and English, or equivalent Level 2 Numeracy and Literacy qualifications. Mature applicants with relevant work experience are welcome to seek individual admissions guidance.

Confirm current entry conditions

NCG’s current full-programme guidance lists a UK Level 3 qualification with at least 64 UCAS points, or an equivalent international qualification. Applicants aged 21 and over may be considered with at least two years of relevant experience. Confirm the requirements for your delivery centre and entry point.

Your learning journey

Explore people, practice and social justice.

The six supplied modules cover professional development and specialist health, social care and wellbeing topics. They form the Level 5 year in NCG’s current guide and should be read alongside the full programme specification.

Year two · Level 5The six supplied modules in the current NCG course guide

These six modules are listed as Year Two by NCG, at 20 credits each. The full two-year programme also includes Level 4 study. Confirm the complete curriculum and your entry point before applying.

  • Professional Development (20 credits)
  • Health Inequalities and Social Justice in the 21st Century (20 credits)
  • The Individual across the Life Course (20 credits)
  • Work-Based Learning (20 credits)
  • Safeguarding and Safe Working Practices (20 credits)

Confirm the complete Level 4 and Level 5 curriculum, module availability and any recognition of prior learning with admissions. Do not assume the six-module list represents the whole two-year programme.

Develop as an independent learner

Study with purpose.

How you’ll develop

  • Explore integrated health and social care principles.
  • Use reading and research to investigate key information.
  • Connect academic concepts with work-based learning.
  • Build critical thinking, teamwork and problem-solving.
  • Learn from academic guidance and guest perspectives where available.

The supplied outline specifies at least ten hours of independent study each week and a substantial reading workload. Confirm the full study commitment, including taught sessions and any practice requirements.

Assessment and support

  • NCG’s current guide lists presentations and quizzes.
  • Report writing and essays also form part of its assessment approach.
  • Tutors support your development of subject understanding and study skills.
  • Work-related learning helps connect theory with practice.

Confirm the module assessment tasks, weighting, work-based arrangements and support available at your delivery centre.

Looking beyond the foundation degree

Explore your next step in care.

Develop understanding relevant to healthcare, social care and wellbeing organisations. Reflect on opportunities for professional development, care services and community-focused work.

  • Nursing training pathways
  • Care worker roles
  • Mental health support pathways
  • Care management progression
  • Community development
  • Social work training pathways
  • Youth work pathways

These are possible directions to investigate. Nursing, social work and other professional roles require separate approved training and registration. Management and specialist roles can require further experience or qualifications. Completing the FdA does not automatically qualify you for every listed role or guarantee employment.

Progress to Level 6

The supplied pathway leads towards a BA (Hons) Integrated Health, Social Care and Wellbeing top-up. NCG’s current guide describes honours top-up progression in a related discipline. Confirm the current award title, entry conditions, credit recognition and available places with the receiving course; progression is subject to its requirements.

Plan your next step

Understand the cost of study.

Published annual tuition fee

£9,790 per year

NCG’s current Higher Education Centre guide lists this annual fee, subject to its published conditions. Confirm the fee for your delivery centre, entry year and remaining years of study, including any additional costs.

Ask about fees & funding

The £9,250 figure in the earlier outline is not the current published NCG Higher Education Centre fee. Confirm your own fee schedule before accepting an offer.

Funding your studies

Eligible students may be able to apply for a Tuition Fee Loan and support with living costs. Eligibility depends on your confirmed course and provider, previous study, age, nationality and residency status. Confirm your individual entitlement with Student Finance.

For most courses starting on or after 1 January 2027, applications use Lifelong Learning Entitlement funding. Check the official guidance for your start date. Repayment conditions depend on the applicable loan plan.
